It is difficult to overstate the transformational potential of quantum technologies. Advances in the field will have far reaching implications in areas ranging from time-keeping, through imaging and sensors, to communication and computing. Commercial applications of computing might take the longest to realise but we are truly excited by the progress we have seen in the past 24 months.
In the first of this two-part series, we provide an accessible introduction to quantum computing technology and the key challenges it faces on the road to commercialisation. …
When Bruce Macfarlane and Alan Morgan founded MMC Ventures 20 years ago it was because they believed in the power of venture capital as a force for good.
That strong sense of purpose and the virtuous circle created by responsible investment remains as true now as ever. So to crown our 20th anniversary year, we are delighted to announce that we have been awarded our certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp).
Certified B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

As we say goodbye to another B Corp month, our first since becoming one of the only VCs in the UK to become a B Corp, we wanted to share our responsible investing framework for the first time.
As part of the B Corp process, you must go through a rigorous impact assessment, consisting of more than 200 questions covering governance structures, environmental impact, recruitment, compensation, and more. Simply by going through the B Corp process, you find inspiration to improve and build on what you do. You can read more about our B Corp journey here.
This is the second part of our deep dive into Quantum Computing (QC). In this article, we focus on the anticipated applications, provide an analysis of the activity in the early stage ecosystem in the UK, and discuss key investment considerations. For an accessible overview of the technology and the key challenges engineers face, please read the first part of the series: The quantum computing revolution, part I: the theory in a nutshell.
As discussed in our first article, QC offers a new paradigm of exponentially higher computing power compared to what’s available today. Such capability promises new use cases…
Much like the six great episodes of the first series of Beyond the Hype: AI, in this series we’ll be interviewing the world’s leading AI technologists, AI entrepreneurs and corporate executives to get under the skin of this technology and discuss the reality of Artificial Intelligence today, what is to come, and why it matters.
Across the nine episodes of series 2, the MMC team digs deeper into the practical realities of AI with the people and companies transforming today’s industries including Current Health, Signal AI, Peak, Barclays Eagle Labs, Senseye, Recycleye, Senseon, Gardin, Rise and Genie AI.
Congratulations to the team at NewVoiceMedia on finding their new home with cloud communications company Vonage.
Yesterday’s announcement is a reflection of years of hard work and dedication. CEO Denis Fois has done an excellent job driving the business to this outcome, building on the scale-up journey that previous CEO, Jonathan Gale, led the business through with the counsel of Chairman Guy Dubois. For the co-founders Ashley Unitt, Chief Scientist, and Richard Pickering this result is a realisation of their long-held vision and ambition for the company.
It has been a privilege to have played a small part in its…
How does AI work? When does AI break down? Will artificial neural networks start to resemble biological neural networks (animals’ brains)? We go ‘Beyond The Hype’ with Dr. Janet Bastiman, who provides an accessible introduction to the workings, limits and future of AI technology.
You may end up with an AI that is racially biased without intending to create one.
Welcome to the MMC Ventures Podcast. We’re going beyond the hype in Artificial Intelligence.
